A Look At Pokémon Sword & Shield

So I don't know about any of you, but I'm a huge fan of Pokémon and I'm so excited that the new games have finally been announced. This also means we finally get a little peek at some of the new Generation 8 Pokémon! If you haven't seen the trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield click here to see it right now.

The Galar Region

Pokémon Sword and Shield appear to be set in a new region called Galar. Judging from past trends with the Pokémon series this is going to be based on a real world location and I'm so hyped for this because I'm almost certain this region is based on the UK. Looking at the map, it resembles an upside-down version of England, Scotland and Wales. They even have a giant clock tower in one of the towns/cities. I wonder if this means we're going to see some sort of royal family in place of the elite four this time around. What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below!

Pokémon Gyms

Another thing I picked up on in the trailer was a building that looked like it could be a gym! We were already told recently that the gym system was coming back (Thank God!) so it's not a huge shock to see it in the trailer. There was one building that resembled a football stadium; I'm not sure if it was meant to be the interior of a gym, or a football mini game as the player is seen wearing a football uniform too.

Wild Encounters

Now I know some people really didn't like the encounter system introduced in Pokémon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu (even though I quiet liked it for a refreshing change). Those people will be happy to hear that the old encounter and battle system looks as though it is returning. I'm looking forward to this as it feels more like an adventure with difficult encounters, rather than just a casual stroll.

Starter Pokemon Reveal

The main attraction in the trailer is definitely the introduction of the three new starter Pokémon. All three of which look so adorable! I really don't know which one I'm going to be picking this time around. Usually there is a clear-cut cute one I will go for, but they have spoiled me for choice!

The new starters all seem to follow the usual theme of water, fire and grass types. They are:

  • Sobble: it is a water type looking lizard that seems to be able to somehow turn invisible as we see it hiding in the fountain in the trailer.
  • Scorbunny: it's a speedy fire type bunny looking Pokémon, seen running around and setting the field on fire a little in the trailer.
  • Grookey: it seems like a helpful grass type ape Pokémon who is seen re-growing the scorched grass left from the other Pokémon.

Date & System

For the first time ever we are going to get one of the main Pokémon games released on the Nintendo Switch! I can't wait to be able to see all the cute creatures up on the TV since I will (more than likely) pour hours into this game. The release date hasn't been announced yet but we do know it will be with us by late 2019, so I know what I'm asking for as an early Christmas present this year.

Let me know what you guys think of the games so far in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!
