Movie Review: Captain Marvel

I'll try to avoid any major spoilers in this review, so consider this your SPOILER WARNING and let's jump right in!

My younger brother and I recently went to see Captain Marvel this week. We're both pretty big fans of the Marvel films as a whole and we've both seen them all. I say Marvel films because I don't know anywhere near as much as the die-hard fans of the comics out there, but I've loved everything I've found out so far. So you can imagine our excitement at the new addition to the films and finally getting to see it at a cinema close by.

The first part of the movie seemed to mainly be focused around getting the audience caught up on the war between the the Skrulls and the Kree. Definitely an interesting experience as we see what the world is like for our hero as well as meeting some fascinating side characters and learning a little of why they fight.

Once the movie really got into itself it began to show it's versatility. First off there is the  great Marvel ingredients of the super hero movie genre we've all grown to love. Full of action and excitement as it kept us on the edge of our seats and got us invested in the main cast and story. It also had a buddy movie feel to it as Brie Larson's Captain Marvel and Samuel Jackson's younger Nick Fury grow closer while bonding over kicking the enemies butt as well as bringing along some great humor to their scenes.

It was awesome seeing Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury as a younger version before he had experienced all that is to come for him and his team. Of course, there was one other star character who stole the scene every time we saw him and is easily now one of my favorite Marvel Characters, Goose the Cat. I can't really go too much into detail about Goose the Cat without giving away some major spoilers to the film, but I suppose at this point you've either seen it or don't mind getting spoilers.

Did Captain Marvel leave me marveled? There have been better Marvel films in the past, but I wouldn't say that Captain Marvel is terrible or even bad. We both really enjoyed it as a sort of filler movie between now and the next installment of the Avengers films. Speaking of, we can't wait for Avengers Endgame after that little sneak peak we got to see during the credits.

  1. Who is goose the cat and why do I need one?

    1. He's the best! We need one right now! It'd clear up so much space.
